US and Switzerland sign Privacy Shield agreement 2017-01-03

The United States and Switzerland, on 12 January 2017, agreed the Swiss-US Privacy Shield Framework as a valid legal mechanism to comply with Swiss requirements when transferring personal data from Switzerland to the United States. The Swiss-US Privacy Shield Framework will replace the US Swiss Safe Harbor immediately, the US Department of Commerce says.

German DPAs launch enquiry on international transfers to non-EU countries 2017-01-01

Ten German state and city level DPAs, coordinated by Bavaria’s DPA, have started a survey of 500 companies’ practices regarding international data transfers. The state and city level DPAs that are involved are: Bavaria, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland and Sachsen-Anhalt. 150 of the 500 companies to be surveyed are under Bavarian jurisdiction.

Russia blocks LinkedIn as a result of data localisation requirement 2017-01-01

In an unprecedented move, the Russian DPA, Roskomnadzor yesterday, 17 November, blocked access to the LinkedIn website in order to comply with a Moscow City Court ruling on 10 November. The court found that the company was in breach of the data localisation laws.
